Volume/Scope
National estimating tool used across Australian branches by approximately 7 estimators managing around 20 project quotes per week

Key Results:

↓ Reduced transport pricing turnaround by up to12–24 hours on selected quotes

↓ Reduced manual carrier pricing requests across national transport lanes

↑ Faster project estimating across approximately 20quotes per week

↑ Consistent transport cost assumptions across allAustralian branches

↑ Improved early-stage visibility on trailer type, over width, permits, escorts, pilots, and regional delivery costs

The Challenge

The client’s estimator team regularly priced infrastructure projects requiring transport from key manufacturing locations across Australia

Transport costs varied by origin, destination state, metro or regional delivery location, distance, cargo dimensions, and trailer type

Estimators were spending significant time emailing carriers for indicative pricing across multiple national lanes

Oversize freight added complexity around over width surcharges, permits, escorts, pilots, and additional planning requirements

Manual pricing processes created delays, inconsistent assumptions, and unnecessary administration during tender preparation

The Solution

United Carriers developed a national transport pricing matrix for use by the client’s estimator team acrossAustralia

The matrix allowed estimators to select manufacturer location, destination state, metro zone, and regional kilometre distance through dropdown functions

Cargo dimensions were entered to determine trailer type, over width requirements, and applicable transport surcharges

The tool included allowance indicators for permits, escorts, pilots, route planning, and additional compliance requirements

United Carriers provided the pricing formula directly to the client, enabling estimators to generate indicative transport costs immediately

The Results

• Approximately 7 estimators can now price transport requirements directly through the matrix

• Around 20 project quotes per week can be estimated with faster and more consistent transport cost assumptions

• Selected quotes that previously required carrier follow-up can now save approximately 12–24 hours in turn around time

• The client reduced manual email traffic, carrier follow-ups, and internal administration during tender preparation

• The tool created a scalable national estimating process across all Australian branches

“This case study demonstrates how structured transport pricing, practical workflow design, and operational freight knowledge can reduce estimating time and improve consistency across national infrastructure projects.”
Chris Lebon, Managing Director — United Carriers APAC

Outcome:

United Carriers created a national transport pricing matrix that enabled a confidential infrastructure manufacturer to estimate freight costs faster, reduce manual carrier pricing requests, and improve quoting consistency across all Australian branches.
